The cellular energy production is called the Krebs cycle, or citric acid cycle.

This process is a crucial metabolic pathway that enables the production and processing of energy in the body through the aerobic oxidation of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. One important phase of the cycle is the activity of the enzyme fumarase, which converts fumarate into ionized malic acid (malate), contributing to the production of NAD+ and energy use by the mitochondria. Magnesium malate, containing ionized malic acid, is better utilized in the final phase of the Krebs cycle, which may lead to an increase in total cellular energy.
